A visit to Spital Farm Craft Centre means a day out with a difference. Whether it’s a taste of everyday Victorian life you’re after, or a special seasonal event you want to experience, there is always plenty to do at this unique venue.
Throughout the year you can feast on traditional teas and cakes and browse the specialist shops which celebrate traditional crafts and skills, and which will take you back to the days of wooden toys and bustling Victorian markets.
Stroll along our Dickens-inspired Victorian street which showcases shops for traditional craft sellers offering their wares in a Victorian setting.
Amble past authentic shop fronts while full-size, animated figures play out their lives to the smells and sights they would have experienced in the nineteenth-century. Meet the resident fish seller, complete with the shop’s real aromas, and hear how she met her beau. Keep those eyes peeled for even more characters hoping you will lend an ear to their stories, too. The hustle and bustle of the streets will be brought home to your senses as a dramatic story unfolds around you ..

But that’s not all – enjoy an afternoon tea to remember from Ye Olde Ridings Tea Room (taken on the tea garden patio), complete with hand-cut sandwiches and delicious cakes. Or treat yourself to a proper ice cream from the parlour with a tasty topping of your choice. And our on-site bakery is a must as you stroll along Baker’s Lane and smell its irresistible (freshly-baked) treats, fresh from the oven.
And at Christmas time our craft centre transforms into a Christmas village, complete with sparkling Christmas decorations adorning the whole site in celebration of Victorian Christmases-past. Our banqueting hall becomes an amazing festive grotto where the star guest is none other than Santa Claus. And Halloween offers some special surprises too.
